Marie Kallman and Sulma Springer were transported to a Jewish ghetto in Lodz Poland. 8 Dec 1941 – In occupied Poland near Lodz, chelmno extermination camps begin operation. Jews were taken there and placed in mobile gas vans then driven to a burial place where carbon monoxide from the engine exhaust was fed into the sealed rear, killing them. Col John Van Vliet, a US army officer was on the scene as a German POW and he examined bodies and data, when he was freed in 1945 he wrote a report saying the Soviets were responsible. May Dec 1981 – On 13 May 1981 Poland was tense, Mehemet Ali Agca, a Turk, fired a shot that almost killed the pope in St Petersberg Rome Italy.
